The muse works in mysterious ways. [livejournal.com profile] scribblesinink wrote a very nice drabble this morning (and I mean very nice - a dammit, I wish I'd written that! kind of drabble *g*). I got to thinking about how [livejournal.com profile] scribblesinink doesn't write drabbles very much, and even when she does, they're often double drabbles. Like her Any Means Necessary. At which point, the muse snuck up to me and dumped a plotbunny in my lap to retell the events in Any Means Necessary from Jake's point of view.

And so this was born....

What Dreams May Come

Jake could feel the warm sun on his face; McAuliffe, his grandfather's old dog, rested heavily against his leg. Sleepily, he knew he should be doing... something. But it was too nice sitting here on the front stoop of the hunting cabin, and the strong sun made it hard to open his eyes.

He sensed someone close to him, and then lips brushed his. The kiss was gentle yet determined: Heather... that day we went to Rogue River.... As he'd done then, he returned the kiss.

Heather pulled away, and Stanley's voice said, "Wakey, wakey."

Stanley?

Jake's eyes flew open.
