Summary: A sequel to (Follows You) Back Home. Sent back in time, Jake Green has successfully prevented the September attacks—at the cost of his relationship with the woman he loves, Heather Lisinski. While he has been working to rebuild his life and his relationships with his family in this changed world, fate has thrown him back into Heather’s path and he has been able to rescue her for a second time. Having won her admiration, he now has the opportunity to win back her heart. As their relationship develops, however, he finds it increasingly hard not to mix up the past he shared with the Heather in that other life with the history he’s creating with the Heather in this one. How can he build a successful relationship with this Heather while concealing the truth of who he is and what he’s done?

Summary: Written for [livejournal.com profile] history_bigbang. Kansas, 1855. At a time of turmoil in the Kansas Territory, with pro-slavery and free-state settlers clashing violently, Jake Green unexpectedly arrives back at the home of his estranged family in the frontier town of Jericho. On the run from trouble further West, he is planning to pay only a brief visit to claim the inheritance left to him by his grandfather, but finds himself drawn in to staying to defend the town from the escalating violence. Amid the fighting, and as the danger increases, he finds himself growing closer to one of the new settlers, a schoolteacher called Heather Lisinski. Meanwhile, he crosses paths with Robert Hawkins, who claims to be a trading agent for an Ohio factory owner, but who seems to have an agenda of his own….

Author's Note: Author's Notes: This story only covers events in Season 1 and greatly simplifies the multiple storylines found in canon, as well as makes changes necessary for the technology of the time period. I have also needed to take some liberties with the real history of the Kansas Territory and the struggle for statehood, but hope these have not been excessive. More details about the historical setting and my research sources can be found in the notes at the end of the story.A huge thank you to: my usual cheerleader and beta, [personal profile] scribblesinink, for all her help; [personal profile] sgafan for the 'horse-beta'; and [personal profile] queenmidalah for volunteering to create some lovely art to accompany the story.

So, I've been learning Dutch (because I'm going to visit [personal profile] scribblesinink this summer). Which is possibly entirely unnecessary, but my brain likes a challenge. Apparently my muses also like a challenge. Although I'm only in week 3 of my course, they decided I really needed to practise my Dutch by writing fanfic in Dutch....

I had to take some sneak peaks ahead to weeks 4 and 5 for some things and also needed something from week 8, although I didn't realize that until I got the fic betaed. But I proudly give you (with huge thanks to [personal profile] scribblesinink for her patience in answering questions about her language, suggesting the title and betaing the Dutch version for me and thereby vastly improving it):
