Oops, sorry, my flist went so crazy over Dreamwidth when it was first launched I forget not everyone knows all the ins and outs!
Dreamwidth is currently in beta, which means they're controlling how many accounts they allow to be created. The only ways to get a free account are to pay the £3 monthly fee for a month's paid account and then let it lapse to a free account, or to get hold of one of the "invite codes" they're handing out (in a controlled way) to people who already have a Dreamwidth account so they can give them to friends who want to join Dreamwidth.
So if you'd like an "invite code" that will let you sign up for a free Dreamwidth account, PM me your email address and I'll get it sent to you. *g*
